Ladybug
Coccinellidae spp.
Not just a pretty picture. The ladybug is a fierce predator in adult and larvae forms, and is known for preying on pest insects such as Light Brown Apple Moth caterpillars and eggs, mealybugs and grapevine scale. Eggs are laid close to prey during the Spring. In Autumn the ladybugs will shelter under rocks and leaf litter, or in the winery lending a helping hand during vintage.
Fun fact: Ladybugs can live up to three years.

GREEN LACEWING
Mallada spp.
The green lacewing is easily identified by a slender pale green body, lace like wings and long antennae. The lacewing preys on soft bodied insects like mites, mealybugs, soft scales, caterpillars and moth eggs. Lacewing eggs are laid on long stalks to stop the larvae from eating the other eggs at hatching.
Fun (?) fact: The lacewing larvae wear the debris of other dead insects. How's that for MET Gala inspiration.

Golden Orb Spider
Trichonephila spp.
The Queen of the vineyard, preying on insects and unsuspecting humans working in the vineyards (just kidding). Have you ever wondered why vineyard ATVs have two poles at the front? Golden orb spiders build their webs across the vineyard rows, which can span one metre in diameter.
Fun fact: The female spiders keep a supply of recently caught insects in silk parcels, a pantry for when food is hard to come by. So relatable, spiders are just like us.
